Modified Stableford

This game variant is also played on the PGA Tour. Most recently at the Barracuda Championship 2020

Unlike traditional scoring methods, which are all about scoring the lowest score, Modified Stableford is about scoring the highest score.

The Modified Stableford awards points based on the number of strokes on each hole:

Double Eagle: 8 points
Eagle: 5 point
Birdie: 2 points
Par: 0 points
Bogey: -1 point
Double Bogey or more: -3 points

PLAY STRATEGY

The strategy in modified Stableford formats can be summarized in three words in most cases: „Go for it“

This scoring format rewards the willingness to take risks on the golf course.

For example, when faced with a carry-over-water that he would not normally attempt, the Modified Stableford format provides an incentive to go for it. A birdie is worth twice as many positive points (2) as a bogey penalty points (-1). Eagles offer huge payouts (5 points), and the worst a player could do would be a double bogey (-3 points), where he could pick up his ball and move on to the next hole.

Those golfers who make a few bogeys, but also a lot of birdies or eagles, are more likely to be at the top of the leaderboard.

This variation is very appealing if you play with handicaps, i.e. net score.

Im Gegensatz zu den traditionellen Bewertungsmethoden, bei denen es darum geht, die niedrigste Punktzahl zu erzielen, geht es bei Modified Stableford darum, die höchste Punktzahl zu erzielen.

Das modifizierte Stableford vergibt Punkte basierend auf der Anzahl der Schläge an jedem Loch:

• Double Eagle: 8 points
• Eagle: 5 points
• Birdie: 2 points
• Par: 0 points
• Bogey: -1 point
• Double Bogey or more: -3 points

SPIELSTRATEGIE

Die Strategie in modifizierten Stableford-Formaten lässt sich in den meisten Fällen in drei Worten zusammenfassen: „Go for it“

Dieses Scoring-Format belohnt die Risikobereitschaft auf dem Golfplatz.
Wenn man z.B. mit einem Carry-Over-Water konfrontiert ist, das er normalerweise nicht versuchen würde, bietet das Modified Stableford-Format einen Anreiz, sich darauf einzulassen. Ein Birdie ist doppelt so viele positive Punkte (2) wert wie ein Bogey Strafpunkte (-1). Eagles bieten riesige Auszahlungen (5 Punkte), und das Schlimmste, was ein Spieler tun könnte, wäre ein doppeltes Bogey (-3 Punkte), bei dem er seinen Ball aufheben und zum nächsten Loch weiterspielen könnte.

Diejenigen Golfer, die ein paar Bogeys, aber auch viele Birdies oder Eagles machen, stehen mit größerer Wahrscheinlichkeit an der Spitze der Rangliste.

Sehr reizvoll ist diese Variante wenn man mit Vorgaben, also Netto-Score spielt.
